India’s huge election has produced an unexpected result: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s losing his majority. The INDIA Alliance, led by the Congress Party fared far better in the 2024 Loksabha Election, requiring the BJP Party to rely on allies to govern for a historical third time.
In this Part 1 conversation, l was joined by Abhijit Iyer-Mitra – a leading and influential voice on Indian domestic affairs and its foreign policy. We reacted to the surprisingly low result for Modi, the lack of reforms he could implement and risks to the economy, and which parties could prove to be most decisive or destructive to the weaken BJP government.
