Varanasi is a holy city of followers of Hinduism and Buddhism. In nearby Sarnath, the Buddha gave his first sermon, it is one of the holiest places of Buddhists. The Aarti ceremony is a prayer to Lord Shiva and Mother Ganga, fire is offered to the River.
