What is Left-wing Vs Right-wing in Politics?
conventionally, Left and Right are used to represent social or economic positions, in India, it exclusively refers to the role religion plays in the ideology. The Religion is with a capital R as it exclusively refers to Hinduism, either in the religious sense or the cultural sense. Religions such as Jainism or Sikhism also tend to be clubbed in with Hinduism.
Indian politics and parties are too diverse to be restricted by labels like “Left” and “Right”. It is a futile attempt to pigeonhole Indian politics into such terms as it only leads to confusion. All Indian parties have a generous dose of both left and right policies and leaders who endorse them. We can mostly call our parties and policies opportunistic and their actions, populist.
