Devadasi: “Female Slave of God” – Sex Trafficking in Modern India

According to Reuters, an estimated 20 million commercial prostitutes are living in India, and 16 million of them are female victims of sex trafficking. One contributing influence to this extreme level of exploitation has to do with an ancient Hindu tradition: the devadasi practice.
