India and PDA!

Valentines day or not, Public Display of Affection can turn quite dangerous in India! 👀

📍PDA is not a crime in itself but Section 294, IPC says that the law can punish anyone who annoys other people by:

-doing any obscene act in any public place or
-singing, reciting or uttering any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place.

📍Is standing close to one another an ‘obscene act’?

Well the law doesn’t give a detailed definition of what comes under obscenity.

And just because it doesn’t give an explicit definition, it is blatantly misused by the police, public & lower courts to harass couples.
