In Hinduism, Ganesha is the deva of wisdom, good fortune and intelligence. Also known as Ganapati, Ganesha is the son of Shiva and Parvati, brother the warlord deva Kartikeya. According to Hindu religion, Ganesh is depicted as a corpulent entity with the head of an elephant, though he is variously portrayed depending on specific cultures. And just like many other Hindu deities, Ganesha has four arms that carry a few number of items. Lord Ganesha is said to have been created by a flaking skin of Parvati, and he somehow gained his elephant head after an encounter with his father Shiva. According to Hinduism, Ganesha is the divinity whom devotees call whenever they have a problem to solve. The story that earned the Hindu god Ganesha his association with intelligence and wisdom is his challenge with his brother Kartikeya. But the most popular story of the Hindu god Ganesha, is the one telling how he gained his head as well as the tale of his broken tusk. To the believer, Ganesha is symbolic of an unstoppable power, protection, success and prosperity in life. It is believed that the epic poem Mahabarata was transcribed by the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, consequently losing one of his tusk.
