Museum of Indian Arts & Culture
Southwestern Indians are not anachronisms, and Southwest Indian communities are not stage sets; they are societies of people whose local roots go back more than 10,000 years of cultural history and who continue to successfully adapt to a rapidly changing cultural and economic landscape. The philosophy of the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture’s “Living Traditions Education Center” is to foster exchanges between Native and non-Native communities and peoples and to inspire knowledge of and an appreciation for traditional and contemporary Indian arts and culture. Located in the traditional homeland of the Southwest Pueblos, Apaches and Navajos, the museum has the unique opportunity to learn directly from the native peoples of the region as well as present exhibits and educational programs from the Native perspective.
