Until the 1920s, two of the oldest civilizations known to the world were the civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia. But all that changed when officers of the Archaeological Survey of India found evidence of an ancient civilization along the banks of the Indus river. The Indus Valley Civilization was home to one of the ancient world’s most developed societies. But we still don’t know what language the people of this civilization spoke. It remains one of the most enduring mysteries of our time. But today, researchers are using AI to help us decode the Indus script. In this video, we discuss the reasons why deciphering the script has eluded the best of us, and whether we can are any closer to decoding it than we were a hundred years ago.
